Formic acid

Formic acid is used to dissolve and treat milk stone, fat, and protein deposits on dairy processing equipment. It is a weak acid that can be used for disinfection and milk stone descaling during cleaning-in-place (CIP).

Formic acid can be added to livestock feed as a preservative and antibacterial agent. It is applied to silage and fresh hay to promote the fermentation of lactic acid and prevent formation of butyric acid.

Beekeepers use Formic Acid to control varroa mite infestations.
