Sequestrants are compounds that can be added to water samples to inactivate certain ions. For example, hard water contains an excess of calcium and magnesium metal ions. These ions will form solid complexes that cause scale and mineral build-up along pipes, in homes, or in industrial processing equipment. To prevent this, sequestrants can be added to keep the metal ions solvated. In water treatment processes, it is detrimental to have deposits of minerals because they can harbour bacteria, block pipes, reduce water flow, or damage appliances and materials they come into contact with.

Common sequestering agents are acids or scale inhibitors. We offer several chemicals that help reduce the impact of hard water in a variety of settings.
