Coagulants and Flocculants in Wastewater Treatment
In wastewater treatment, coagulants and flocculants are used to solve a variety of problems; they clarify water, reduce turbidity, and thicken sludge for removal. Both compounds function by destabilising solid particle suspensions. Coagulants neutralise charged particles while flocculants provide a surface onto which suspended particles can settle. Both cause conglomeration and allow for solid-liquid separation.
Additionally, coagulants can be used to remove phosphate from wastewater effluent and help prevent eutrophication in rivers and lakes. Phosphate is the limiting nutrient for plants and algae, and increased concentrations cause rapid vegetation growth that can decrease biodiversity and release toxins into water sources.
We offer a wide variety of effective coagulants and flocculants that can be used in municipal, industrial, and commercial water and wastewater processing.
