Acorn Water Supports Young Scientists

Each year, the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition features the final rounds of a prestigious competition involving over 2000 student projects. The competition attracts hundreds of motivated, innovative young thinkers interested in science and technology who are between the ages of 12 and 19.  Here at Acorn Water, we are proud to support students involved in the program who have conducted research on water quality and its impacts on human health.

In preparation for the 2019 event, a pair of transition year students called upon Acorn’s water testing services to analyse samples of local drinking water. Once the results were in, the students were brought on-site for a lesson focused on water quality and its importance. CTO William Holland reflects, “It was great to see that the younger generation is becoming more aware of the importance of water quality, both in drinking waters and the environment. Our Lab Manager Frank Mullins was very impressed by Caoilfhinn and Ailbhe’s interest and self-taught knowledge of water quality.”

The pair’s drinking water analyses and hard work was on display at the 2019 BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition at the RDS venue in Dublin. “Both students can be proud of what they have achieved in representing themselves and their school, Gaelcholáiste Phort Láirge, at this high profile event,” says William, commending Caoilfhinn and Ailbhe’s efforts.

The Exhibition took place over the 9th-12th of January, 2019.
